The Challenge

Leadership was difficult to define at NWAS, and they wanted a framework that could aid the development and the recruitment of strong leaders, being clear on what ‘good’ looked like so they could achieve their strategic goals.

Our approach

Delve created a leadership framework with a range of stakeholders from North West Ambulance Service called ‘Be Think Do’.  In this approach, we encouraged the stakeholders to park everything they thought they knew about leadership and grew the framework from the ground up. 

By avoiding a ‘done to’ approach, listening to what leaders and staff were telling us was important, we started to build a picture of the behaviours they felt were essential and the framework grew organically.

The result

This approach has resulted in the Be Think Do brand being embedded across the organisation and has become a common and familiar language. We have frontline leaders to Executives all talking about how they can be a Be Think Do leader.

We also developed a leadership app which guided leaders around the framework, supported them with up to date resources.
