Creative ways to celebrate ‘Blue Monday!’

Whether it came about as a PR initiative for a travel company or not, Monday 17 January also known as ‘Blue Monday’, is a great opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate having a support circle at your workplace to get you through even the toughest of days.

Here are creative ways to celebrate being in it together!

  1. Acknowledging mundanities

It is a refreshing way to acknowledge that sometimes it can be hard to find inspiration. Use Blue Monday to discuss the lesser talked about aspects of work life and techniques that we each use to thrive on such days.

It is a great way to address some unwritten rules of work culture. It also ensures that we do not support the suppression of negative emotions and that we overcome the ‘toxic positivity’ work culture. Overall, this ensures that everyone on your team feels seen, heard, and validated.

  1. Chasing the sun

Planning a 20–30-minute walk at noon to get some vitamin D is a great team building opportunity! It is a healthy initiative to get on your feet and to do something fun together.

If you are working virtually, you can break the routine and get creative by organising a virtual yoga/ meditation session.

This also comes with the added benefit of having increased energy levels and general wellbeing as well as combating stress and fatigue (Forbes, 2019).

  1. Fika time

Fika is a concept that comes from the Swedish work culture. It is an essential part of the day where employees make the time to share a hot beverage and pastry, and to reconnect and bond.

While working virtually, it can be so easy to jump on a call and dive straight into work. We often do not prioritise non-work conversations. Blue Monday is another great opportunity to schedule some Fika time.

If working virtually, you can even make sure to order treats that are sent to your team’s’ homes! It is a meaningful way to check in with everyone and ensure that members feel included.

Nurture- Flourish – Grow

Teams often benefit from time out to reflect on their performance and co-create their shared sense of purpose. At Delve, we can work with teams to enable them to understand and value the contribution each member can make at their best and how teams can play to their strength.

Whether you have new teams and you want to deploy effective behaviours from the start, or you have long-standing teams that require a culture shift; we can work with you to create a roadmap for your teams’ development in line with the business goals.
